HEIC to JPG

Convert iPhone photos to JPG or PNG — decoded locally.

Loading the interactive tool… It runs in your browser — if it doesn't appear, enable JavaScript.

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default — great for storage, frustrating everywhere else, because Windows, older software and most websites still can't open it. This tool decodes HEIC/HEIF locally in your browser (via libheif compiled to WebAssembly) and re-encodes to JPG or PNG. Convert one photo or a batch; JPG quality is adjustable.

Privacy matters more than usual here: the FBI has warned about fake free converter sites that scrape uploaded files for personal data. Your photos never leave your device on this page — you can switch off Wi-Fi after it loads and conversion still works.

Frequently asked questions

Why are my iPhone photos HEIC in the first place?

Apple adopted HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) in iOS 11 because it stores the same quality as JPEG in about half the space. Compatibility outside Apple's ecosystem never caught up — hence this tool.

Will converting lose quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPG at 90%+ quality is visually identical for photos; the slider lets you trade size against fidelity. Note that EXIF metadata (location, camera settings) is not carried into the output.

Can I stop my iPhone using HEIC?

Yes — Settings → Camera → Formats → "Most Compatible" makes the camera shoot JPEG directly. "High Efficiency" (HEIC) remains the better choice if storage is tight and you convert only when needed.
