In this browser's local storage, on this device. They're never sent to a server, so we can't read them, lose them, or be compelled to hand them over. They also can't be recovered by us if you lose them.
Will my notes still be here tomorrow?
Yes, as long as you use the same browser on the same device and don't clear your site data. Clearing browsing data, using private/incognito mode, or switching browser or device will all mean the notes aren't there. Download the .txt for anything important.
Can I access my notes from another device?
No — there's no account and no sync, which is precisely why there's nothing to sign up for and nothing stored on our side. Download the file and move it yourself if you need it elsewhere.
Is there a length limit?
Browser local storage is typically capped around 5 MB per site, which is roughly a million words — far beyond what a scratchpad needs. If saving ever fails the status indicator stops confirming saves, so download your text.
