Work with fractions the way maths homework and recipes demand: enter two fractions, pick the operation, and get the result simplified to lowest terms — with the mixed-number form and decimal equivalent alongside. The simplification uses the greatest common divisor, so 6/8 always comes back as 3/4.
Frequently asked questions
How do you add fractions with different denominators?
Rewrite both over a common denominator, then add the numerators: 1/2 + 3/4 → 2/4 + 3/4 = 5/4 = 1¼. Multiplying the two denominators always works as a common denominator; simplifying afterwards tidies up.
Why does dividing by a fraction mean multiplying by its flip?
Dividing by a number asks "how many of it fit?" — and half fits twice into one, so ÷½ is ×2. Generally, dividing by a/b is multiplying by b/a (the reciprocal).
What's a mixed number versus an improper fraction?
5/4 (improper) and 1¼ (mixed) are the same value in different outfits. Mixed numbers read naturally; improper fractions calculate cleanly — the calculator shows both.
