HEIF is the container behind your iPhone's photos (HEIC is the codec inside it) — files may end in .heif or .heic, and Windows, older software and most websites choke on both. This page decodes them locally in your browser via WebAssembly and re-encodes to universal JPG: drop in one photo or a whole batch, tune quality with the slider, and download each result.
Like the main HEIC converter this is built on, nothing is ever uploaded — conversion works with Wi-Fi off once the page has loaded. That is the whole point: photos carry location and personal metadata, and fake free converter sites have been caught scraping uploads.
Frequently asked questions
Is HEIF the same as HEIC?
Almost. HEIF is the container format; HEIC is HEIF using the HEVC codec — which is what iPhones write. In practice the two extensions hold the same kind of photo, and this tool accepts both .heif and .heic files.
Are my photos uploaded to convert them?
No. Decoding and re-encoding run entirely on your device in your browser. You can switch off Wi-Fi after the page loads and batch conversion still works.
HEIF to JPG or PNG — which should I pick?
JPG for sharing — far smaller files, visually identical for photos at 90%+ quality. PNG when the image is headed into editing or archiving and you want zero additional lossy compression.
