Fill in start time, end time and break minutes for each day you worked; the calculator handles the per-day math, the weekly total, and the conversion that trips everyone up — decimal hours for payroll. Overnight shifts work naturally: an end time before the start time rolls into the next day.

Frequently asked questions

Why is 7 hours 30 minutes 7.50 and not 7.30?

Decimal hours express minutes as a fraction of an hour: 30 minutes is half an hour, so 7:30 is 7.5 hours. Writing 7.30 underpays you 12 minutes — the single most common timesheet error.

Should breaks be deducted from work hours?

Unpaid meal breaks, yes — that's what the break column does. Short paid rest breaks (5–20 minutes) typically count as worked time in the US; rules vary by jurisdiction and contract, so the column is under your control.

How do overnight shifts calculate?

If the end time is earlier than the start (22:00 → 06:00), the calculator assumes you crossed midnight and adds 24 hours — an 8-hour shift, minus whatever break you enter.
