Shrink oversized PDFs while keeping text crisp and selectable. This tool re-processes the document with Ghostscript, the industry-standard PDF engine, which downsamples embedded images without rasterizing the text — the approach that browser-only compressors can't match.
Transparency note: this is the one tool on this site that processes files on our server, because Ghostscript can't run in a browser. Your file is sent over HTTPS, compressed in memory, returned, and deleted immediately — never stored, logged or read. If you prefer fully-local tools, every other PDF tool here runs on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Which compression level should I use?
"Balanced" (150 DPI images) suits email and general sharing while staying readable on screens. "Maximum" (72 DPI) is for strict size limits. "Light" (300 DPI) trims size while keeping print quality.
Will text stay selectable after compression?
Yes. Ghostscript recompresses the images inside the PDF but leaves text as text — unlike tools that convert pages to pictures, the output stays searchable and copyable.
Is my PDF stored on your server?
No. It's processed in memory and the temporary files are deleted the moment your compressed copy is returned — whether the compression succeeds or fails. Files up to 50 MB are supported.
