How do I work out a test percentage by hand?
Subtract the wrong answers from the total to get the number correct, divide by the total, and multiply by 100. Six wrong on a 40-question test is 34 ÷ 40 = 0.85, so 85%.
Does this handle partial credit or weighted sections?
No — it assumes every question is worth the same and that a wrong answer scores the same as a blank. If your test awards partial credit or weights sections differently, use the grade calculator and enter each section as its own row with its own points.
What letter grade is this percentage?
The table shows the letter alongside every score using the common US 10-point scale with plus and minus. Scales vary between institutions, though — some set the A boundary at 94 rather than 93 — so check your own grading policy if you're near a cut-off.
